Can I install my own air conditioner?

By law, you are required to use a licensed HVAC technician for any air conditioning installation. Only technicians can handle the refrigerant gases used in an air con system, and installing one yourself could void the warranty. Should I buy a gas heater or a reverse cycle air conditioner?
